Refund and Cancellation Policy

Effective date: July 16, 2026

This Refund and Cancellation Policy applies to payments made to Chesstatic Private Limited, operating the platform hosted at chessfeed.ai ("Chessfeed", "we", "our", or "us"), unless a signed Academy or enterprise agreement states different terms.

1. Scope

This Policy covers B2C recurring subscriptions, one-time Credit top-ups, Academy prepaid seat purchases and renewals, Academy mid-cycle seat additions, Academy Credit top-ups, promotional entitlements, duplicate or incorrect charges, and payment disputes.

Nothing in this Policy limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded under applicable consumer, payment, or other law. Where an Academy agreement or order form provides more specific refund or cancellation terms, that agreement controls for the Academy purchase.

2. General policy for digital Services and Credits

Chessfeed provides a Free plan so users can evaluate core functionality before purchasing. Paid plans, digital entitlements, and Credits are generally provided or made available promptly after payment confirmation. Accordingly, payments are generally final except as expressly stated in this Policy or required by law. As a general rule, the User is liable for the payments and use of services and no refunds are made by us. However, in some exceptional cases, the refunds may be made completely at our discretion and are not available as a right.

Refund eligibility may depend on whether the payment was captured, whether a billing error occurred, whether paid entitlements were granted, whether any Credits or included usage were consumed, and whether the request was made promptly.

If a refund is approved for a purchase that granted Credits, seat capacity, or other entitlements, we may revoke the unused entitlement and reverse related ledger or access records. A refund cannot be used to obtain both the cash refund and continued use of the refunded entitlement.

3. B2C subscription cancellation

You may cancel an active B2C subscription through account settings. Cancellation is scheduled for the end of the current paid billing period.

  • The subscription remains active until the current paid period ends.
  • Unused monthly Credits and included game analyses remain available only until their normal period expiry.
  • The subscription will not renew after the effective cancellation date.
  • No prorated refund is provided solely because you cancel before the current period ends.

Deleting your account is not a substitute for cancelling a recurring subscription. Cancel the subscription first or contact support if you cannot access cancellation controls.

4. Subscription renewals and failed payments

Subscriptions renew automatically at the billing frequency shown at checkout until cancelled. Renewal charges are generally non-refundable when the renewal was correctly processed and the new period entitlements were granted.

If a renewal payment fails, remains pending, is reversed, or cannot be verified, Chessfeed does not grant the new period's monthly Credits or included game-analysis allowance. The prior paid period remains governed by its original end date.

Contact us promptly if you were charged for a renewal after a timely cancellation request, charged more than once, charged an incorrect amount, or charged without authorisation. We will investigate with the payment processor and provide the correction required by applicable law and the verified transaction record.

5. Accidental first-time subscription purchase

We may approve a refund for an accidental initial subscription purchase when all of the following are satisfied:

  • The request is submitted within 48 hours after the charge;
  • No paid-plan Credits, included game analyses, AI Coach interactions, deep analyses, scoresheet digitisation, or other paid entitlements from that purchase have been consumed;
  • The account is in good standing and the request is not abusive, fraudulent, or part of repeated purchase-and-refund activity; and
  • The purchase is not otherwise excluded by mandatory law or a separate agreement.

Approval is not automatic. If the subscription charge is refunded, the subscription and all entitlements arising from that purchase will be cancelled or revoked.

6. One-time B2C Credit top-ups

Top-up Credits are one-time digital purchases, not subscriptions. Unless checkout states otherwise, they expire 180 days after grant.

A Top-up purchase is generally non-refundable once any Credit from that purchase has been consumed, reserved and successfully committed, transferred through an authorised correction, or has expired.

We may approve a refund for an accidental or duplicate Top-up purchase if the request is submitted within 48 hours and none of the Credits from the relevant pack have been used. If approved, the entire unused Credit bucket will be revoked. Partial cash refunds for the unused portion of a partly consumed pack are not offered unless required by law or the charge resulted from our error.

No refund or extension is provided merely because Top-up Credits were not used before their disclosed expiry date.

7. Monthly included, free, promotional, and administrative Credits

Free monthly Credits, subscription-included Credits, included game analyses, promotional Credits, event grants, trials, bonus Credits, referral rewards, and administrative grants are not separately purchased and are not redeemable or refundable for cash.

They may expire under the plan or campaign terms and may be corrected or revoked if granted by error, duplication, fraud, abuse, payment reversal, or breach.

8. Academy prepaid billing

8.1 Initial purchase and renewal

Academy plans are prepaid for the selected plan, paid-seat capacity, and billing period. Payment activates or schedules seat capacity and pooled entitlements only after capture or verification. Correctly processed Academy initial and renewal payments are generally non-refundable after the paid period or entitlements have been activated, except as required by law or agreed in writing.

8.2 Current-period cancellation or seat reduction

Cancelling Academy use or reducing the number of students during an active paid period does not produce an automatic prorated refund. Students may be reassigned within paid capacity. A requested seat reduction applies to the next billing period and changes the next renewal amount, unless a separate agreement states otherwise.

8.3 Mid-cycle seat additions

Additional seats purchased during an active period are charged on a prorated basis for the remaining period. After payment, the additional capacity and prorated Credits and game-analysis allowance are activated. The prorated payment is generally non-refundable after activation, except for a duplicate, incorrect, or failed grant or where required by law.

8.4 Academy Credit top-ups

Academy Top-up Credits are pooled, do not increase paid-seat capacity or included game-analysis allowance, and expire 180 days after grant unless stated otherwise. They follow the same general zero-usage accidental/duplicate purchase rule as B2C Top-up Credits, subject to the Academy agreement and authorisation by an Academy billing administrator.

8.5 Unpaid renewal

Academy V1 does not include an automatic grace period. If the next billing period is not paid, no new paid-seat capacity or monthly Academy entitlements are granted for that period. Any discretionary extension or service credit must be approved in writing.

9. Failed, cancelled, pending, or uncredited payments

A failed or cancelled checkout should not grant paid entitlements. A bank or payment app may temporarily show an authorisation or pending debit that later reverses automatically. Contact your bank or Razorpay if a pending amount does not resolve within their normal timeline.

If Razorpay or your bank shows a captured payment but Chessfeed did not grant the purchased subscription, Credits, Academy period, or seat expansion, contact us with the transaction ID. We will reconcile the payment and either grant the correct entitlement or issue an appropriate refund or correction after verification. The grant of the entitlement will not change the period of subscription.

10. Duplicate charges, incorrect amounts, and service failures

We will correct verified duplicate charges, incorrect amounts, payments captured for an unavailable purchase, and failures caused by Chessfeed that prevent the paid digital entitlement from being provided. Depending on the circumstances, the remedy may be entitlement delivery, reversal, replacement Credits, service extension, account credit, or refund.

Short interruptions, third-party Chess.com or Lichess outages, user-device issues, internet problems, or dissatisfaction with a valid AI or engine output do not automatically qualify for a refund. Extended Chessfeed-caused unavailability or removal of a material paid feature may be reviewed case by case and subject to mandatory law and service extension shall be offered as the first remedy.

11. How to request a refund or billing correction

Email ops@chessfeed.ai with the subject "Refund or Billing Correction Request" and include:

  • Registered Chessfeed email address and, for Academy requests, the Academy name;
  • Purchase type, plan or Credit-pack name, purchase date, and amount;
  • Razorpay payment, order, subscription, invoice, or Payment Link identifier, if available;
  • Reason for the request and any evidence of duplicate charge, cancellation, technical failure, or unauthorised payment; and
  • Confirmation that no relevant Credits or paid entitlements were used, where relying on the accidental-purchase exception.

We may request additional information to verify identity, transaction ownership, usage, authority to act for an Academy, or the status of a payment dispute.

12. Review and refund processing

We aim to review complete requests promptly. Complex, suspected-fraud, chargeback, Academy, international, tax, or payment-provider cases may require additional time.

Approved refunds are ordinarily sent through the original payment method using Razorpay or the applicable payment channel. Processing and settlement times depend on the payment provider, bank, card network, currency, and jurisdiction and may take several business days after we initiate the refund.

Refunds are normally made in the original transaction currency and amount, subject to lawful tax adjustments. Chessfeed does not control exchange-rate changes, foreign-transaction fees, or charges imposed separately by a bank or payment provider.

13. Chargebacks and payment disputes

Please contact us before initiating a chargeback so we can investigate and attempt to resolve the issue. This does not prevent you from exercising lawful rights through your bank or payment provider.

If a chargeback or payment reversal is opened, we may suspend the disputed subscription, Credits, Academy entitlements, or billing account while the matter is investigated; provide transaction and usage evidence to the payment provider; reverse entitlements associated with a refunded or reversed payment; and restrict accounts involved in fraudulent or abusive disputes.

14. Statutory withdrawal and consumer rights

Users in some jurisdictions may have mandatory cancellation, withdrawal, conformity, or refund rights for digital services. Any waiver of a cooling-off period or consent to immediate digital performance will apply only if it is validly obtained and enforceable in the user's jurisdiction.

Where mandatory law provides greater rights than this Policy, the mandatory law controls.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy prospectively to reflect changes in law, payment methods, pricing, or product design. We will post the revised Policy with an updated effective date and provide additional notice where required by law. A change will not reduce a refund right that had already accrued under mandatory law.
